Evangelism That Pulls Instead of Pushes — A Practical Guide for Apostolic Saints
Evangelism That Pulls Instead of Pushes
A Practical Guide for Apostolic Saints — cooperate with the Spirit’s draw, not the flesh’s shove.
Acts 2:38 PathwaySpirit & TruthGentleness & ClarityHoliness & Love
Lesson Texts
John 6:44 — “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him…”
John 12:32 — “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.”
Romans 2:4 — “…the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance.”
1 Peter 3:15 — “…be ready always to give an answer… with meekness and fear.”
Colossians 4:6 — “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt…”
1) The Difference Between Pull and Push
Push Evangelism
Pull Evangelism
Forces, argues, pressures decisions
Creates curiosity, invites interest
Seeks to win debates
Seeks to win souls
Rushes the process
Lets conviction ripen as the Spirit draws
Harshness, superiority
Grace, meekness, clarity
Often pushes people away
Pulls people toward Jesus
💡
Illustration: A pushy salesperson drives you away; a helpful one who shows value and gives space draws you in. The Gospel isn’t for sale—but our approach matters.
2) The Biblical Basis for Pull Evangelism
God draws, we don’t shove: John 6:44 — our job is to partner with the Spirit, not replace Him.
Jesus draws when exalted: John 12:32 — lift up Jesus, not self, brand, or politics.
Kindness leads to repentance: Romans 2:4 — the goodness of God brings repentance.
Speech seasoned with grace: Col. 4:6 — truth and grace; like salt, it preserves and makes appealing.
3) The Four Pull-Levers of Evangelism
A. Story — Testimony That Answers Their Ache
Share what Jesus did for you. Keep it simple: “I was lost; Jesus saved me; now I have peace.”
Your story is hard to argue with (Rev. 12:11).
Practice: Be ready with a 60-second testimony.
B. Service — Tangible Kindness Opens the Heart
People are moved by love they can see (Matt. 5:16).
Meals, rides, listening, practical help. Jesus often healed and fed before preaching.
Service creates credibility. Credibility creates openness.
C. Scripture — One Sharp Verse at the Right Time
Avoid flooding them with verses; choose one for the moment (Heb. 4:12).
Leave them hungry for more, not stuffed and confused.
D. Spirit — Prayer That Lets Them Feel God
Offer to pray with them right now.
The presence of God is the greatest pull (1 Cor. 14:25).
4) The Pull Evangelism Flow
Memorize this:Presence → Power → Proclamation → Pathway
Presence: Pray & fast first. Ask God to go before you (Luke 10:2).
Power: Be Spirit-filled and Spirit-led (Acts 1:8).
Proclamation: Exalt Jesus, then give one next step. Example: “Let’s read Acts 2:38 together.”
Pathway: Clear action: “Let’s pray now.” “Come Sunday & sit with me.” “We can baptize you today.”
5) Common Pitfalls That Push People Away
Push Mistake
Pull Alternative
Arguing to win
Ask questions like Jesus (John 4:7–10)
Rushing decisions
Give space for conviction to ripen (Acts 2:37)
Harsh or superior tone
Meekness & fear (1 Pet. 3:15)
Vague call to action
One clear step: repent / baptize / receive the Spirit
Cold performance
Authentic love & prayer (Ps. 51)
6) Sample Conversation Starters
“Has God ever felt close to you before?”
“If you could ask God one question, what would it be?”
“Would you let me share a two-minute story of how God answered me?”
“Could I pray with you right now for God to help in this situation?”
🧭
Homework Challenge: Practice these with a partner until they feel natural.
7) Your One-Minute Gospel
Friend, God made you and loves you. Sin separated us, but Jesus—God Himself—came to earth, died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. If you’ll repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, He will start a brand-new life in you today.
8) The Role of the Church Service
Prayer-filled greeters who quietly intercede as they welcome.
Testimonies early in service to create hunger.
Songs that exalt Jesus, not merely entertain.
Preaching with a clear call to salvation (Acts 2:38).
Altar workers who listen first, then gently guide.
Baptistry ready, garments ready, follow-up ready.
9) Practice Activity
Share your 60-second testimony.
Start a conversation using one question above.
Invite someone to church with a gentle, clear invitation.
10) Final Charge
Jesus didn’t call us to argue people into the Kingdom, but to draw them. “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matt. 4:19)
You don’t catch fish by beating the water—you catch them by luring, drawing, patience, and skill.
Saint of God, be a magnet, not a mallet. Lift up Jesus, live holy, speak with grace, and trust the Spirit to pull hearts to salvation.
Prayer of Commitment
“Lord Jesus, make me a vessel of Your love and truth. Teach me to speak with grace and power. Help me to live so that others see You in me. Use my testimony, my service, my words, and my prayers to draw men and women to Your saving truth. In Jesus’ Name, amen.”
